6 San Francisco Therapists for Women [No Waitlist]
Women come to therapy for all kinds of reasons: healing trauma, navigating a transition, reconnecting with themselves, or untangling patterns shaped by a lifetime of messages about who they're supposed to be.
Whatever brings you in, we’re here for you.
At Stillpoint Therapy Collective, our San Francisco therapists for women meet you as a whole person, never a stereotype. We’re here to help you both process your unique experiences and explore the specific dynamics that women disproportionately face. Meet our team here and reach out when you’re ready to begin—we’re accepting new clients now.
There's no single reason women come to therapy.
The concerns women bring to therapy are as varied as the women themselves. Still, many are shaped—at least in part—by the messages that those who present as female absorb growing up about how to be likeable, capable, or "enough."
Here are some examples of what we hear from the women we work with:
"I was taught to keep the peace, so I never learned what to do with my own anger."
"My worth feels tied to being productive, attractive, or low-maintenance."
"I've been through trauma that I’ve never fully processed.”
"I want to really understand myself—what I feel, who I am, what I want out of life.”
"I've spent so long managing everyone's expectations that I've lost track of my own."
Maybe one of these fits, or maybe your reason is something else entirely. Either way, we start with your story and find the path forward together.

Good fit for women healing trauma and learning to calm an overwhelmed nervous system
The women who gravitate toward me as their therapist struggle to feel safe in their bodies. They may have experienced trauma, feel overwhelmed by chronic anxiety, or simply don’t feel at home in their body but aren’t sure why or how to change that.
As a Somatic Experiencing practitioner, I help women build nervous system regulation from the inside out. Using this somatic, trauma-informed approach, we’ll explore your feelings, thoughts, sensations, or memories so you can integrate what you’ve been carrying and start feeling more at ease.
Credentials: Associate Marriage and Family Therapist #144905
Specialty Areas: Trauma and complex trauma, anxiety and stress, nervous system regulation, life transitions, relationship challenges, somatic therapy
Availability: Virtual in San Francisco & in-person in the East Bay
Bayley Azevedo (she/her)
Good fit for queer women working on intimacy, communication, and boundaries
As a queer woman myself, I bring lived experience to the work I do with women—especially LGBTQIA+ women—around anxiety, trauma, intimacy, communication, and boundaries. While I won’t make assumptions about how those dynamics present for you, the women I work with find that the shared context of moving through the world as a queer woman helps them feel more comfortable opening up.
My style is warm, sex-positive, and deeply affirming. Whatever pattern you're working with, we'll move at your pace, make sense of where it came from, and practice new ways of relating that actually fit who you are and the life you want to live.
Credentials: Associate Marriage and Family Therapist #140730
Specialty Areas: LGBTQIA+ women, anxiety and depression, trauma and sexual trauma, intimacy and communication, boundary setting, self-esteem
Availability: In-person & virtual in San Francisco
Tina Salomon-Tripp (she/her)
Good fit for women rebuilding self-esteem and learning how to trust their own voice
I help women develop a strong inner compass—a clearer sense of who they are, what they want, and what they need. So many women struggle with trusting themselves, and our work together will help you build those skills using the therapeutic relationship as the foundation for shifting your relationship with yourself and others. As a mom of three, I also understand the real complexity of balancing your own needs alongside family and relationships.
My approach is relational and depth-oriented, drawing on 25 years in the creative arts to make space for curiosity, meaning, and individual expression. I create a warm, direct setting where you feel genuinely seen and celebrated for the person you are.
Credentials: Associate Marriage and Family Therapist #149177
Specialty Areas: Self-esteem, anxiety and depression, relationships, life transitions, guilt and shame, identity, parenting and family dynamics
Availability: Virtual in San Francisco & limited in-person in Santa Monica
Jen Ottman (she/her)
Good fit for high-achieving professionals navigating burnout and perfectionism
I work with high-achieving women navigating burnout, perfectionism, and self-worth that’s tied up in over-performing. Many of my clients look resilient on the outside while struggling more than they let on—often shaped by a culture that rewards women for doing it all without complaint—and I understand that experience firsthand.
My approach is insight-driven and attachment-oriented. We use our therapeutic relationship to practice vulnerability, boundaries, and getting your needs met, then translate those shifts into real life.
Credentials: Associate Marriage and Family Therapist #153153
Specialty Areas: Professionals and executives, anxiety and stress, burnout and perfectionism, relationship and family dynamics, life transitions, identity and self-worth
Availability: Virtual in San Francisco & in-person in Santa Monica
Amanda Nance (she/her)
Good fit for athletes and survivors who heal through movement, art, and nature
Healing doesn't always happen sitting still. For many women, that’s what made traditional talk therapy feel daunting or simply ineffective in the past. As a therapist, I draw on my background as a personal trainer, along with my training in somatic therapy and ecotherapy, to help women reconnect with themselves through movement, art, and time in nature.
Whether you’re navigating trauma, grief, relationship issues, or body image struggles, I’m here to support you. Together, we’ll honor what past versions of you did to survive while building a more secure future.
Credentials: Associate Clinical Social Worker #136898
Specialty Areas: Trauma, PTSD and CPTSD, self-esteem and body image, athletes, grief and loss, identity exploration, life transitions
Availability: Virtual & in-person in San Francisco
Ellen Ottman (she/her)
Good fit for women whose stress and trauma show up as chronic pain or tension
As Stillpoint's founder, I'm a licensed somatic trauma therapist with a particular focus on women living with chronic pain. So often, pain that hasn't eased with other treatment is the body's way of holding stress, tension, or trauma it never had the chance to release.
With more than a decade of experience and advanced training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Brainspotting, and Ketamine-Assisted Therapy, I help you listen to those signals, calm your system, and find relief through gentle, body-based work.
Credentials: Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist #124702
Specialty Areas: Chronic pain and tension, trauma, PTSD and CPTSD, somatic therapy, Ketamine-Assisted Therapy, burnout, LGBTQ+ individuals
Availability: Virtual in San Francisco

FAQs about therapy for women
-
"Women's issues" is a loose term for concerns that show up often among women, often from the way that people who present as female are socialized in our society. They’re not issues that all women experience, but they often disproportionately affect women or present in particular ways in those who are socialized as female.
Depending on the person, that might include:
Healing from trauma, including childhood or sexual trauma
Anxiety, perfectionism, or self-criticism
Identity, self-worth, and life transitions
Relationship, family, and communication patterns
Reconnecting with yourself, your body, or your sense of direction
Experience of sexism, misogyny, or discrimination
Regardless of your gender identity or the particular issues you’re facing, your therapy is always shaped around what's true for you, not a one-size-fits-all idea of womanhood.
-
The methods used in therapy for women are the same evidence-based approaches used in therapy for people who hold different gender identities—the difference is the lens.
A therapist attuned to women's experiences understands how socialization, cultural expectations, and gendered pressures can shape the patterns you carry, without assuming they apply to you. That context helps you feel understood faster, so the work can go deeper, sooner.
-
Not necessarily—what matters most is fit and feeling safe. Some women prefer a therapist who shares aspects of their lived experience, and that's completely valid. Others connect well with therapists of any gender. Our team includes clinicians across gender identities, so you can choose what feels right rather than what's expected.
-
Absolutely. Our practice is LGBTQ+-affirming and welcomes people of all gender identities, including trans, nonbinary, and gender-diverse clients. Several of our therapists specialize in identity exploration and gender-affirming care. No matter how you identify, you'll be met with respect, curiosity, and genuine affirmation.

Yes, therapy is typically covered by insurance. At Stillpoint, we're an out-of-network practice and don't bill insurance directly, but we can provide superbills you may submit to your plan for possible reimbursement. We also reserve a limited number of sliding-scale spots based on need and availability—so if cost feels like a barrier, please reach out, and we'll work to find a fee that fits.
