Amber Godwin
AMFT #144905, Supervised by Michele Rae Bachmeier, LMFT, MFC #35491
I am passionate about helping individuals and couples find relief and discover more possibility and ease in their lives.
I use a compassionate, trauma-informed, and relational approach, blending insight-oriented talk therapy with somatic or body-based awareness and techniques. My integrative approach includes ongoing training in Somatic Experiencing. This modality supports the healing of trauma and other past experiences that keep us stuck and increases nervous system and emotional regulation capacity.
My style is warm, collaborative, authentic, and grounded. I create a safe and empowering healing environment and prioritize going at a pace that works for you and your nervous system. Using compassion and curiosity, I’ll gently guide you in exploring your whole, present experience–including any feelings, thoughts, sensations, or memories you are ready to explore. This work helps us to begin to uncover and resolve the root of your challenges. We may also bring in practical coping and self-care strategies where helpful. In time, we will access your innate capacity for healing, creating the potential to build inner resilience and foster more ease and fulfillment in your life.
My somatic, trauma-informed approach with couples similarly incorporates compassionate and curious exploration of what’s present. I also draw on elements of the Gottman Method to help partners improve communication and deepen connection.
You are deserving of respect, compassion, and non-judgmental and knowledgeable support. I am experienced in working with people with a wide range of identities and backgrounds, including those in the LGBTQI+ community, as well as teenagers, elders, and many folks in between. My diverse background—including experience as a health and wellness coach for underserved communities, a PhD in applied math, experience working in tech, and personal interests like travel, dancing, gardening, and yoga—allows me to deeply connect with clients navigating a wide range of professional and personal paths.
I look forward to hearing from you and exploring whether we might be a good fit.

I work with adults who are navigating anxiety, trauma, identity exploration, and relationship challenges. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling disconnected — from themselves, from their bodies, or from the people around them — and are ready to find new ways of relating and feeling grounded. I welcome LGBTQ+ clients and those exploring the intersections of identity, culture, and belonging.

My work is relational, somatic, and trauma-informed. Together, we’ll explore how your emotions and experiences show up in both your mind and body. I bring a gentle, curious presence and help you slow down, notice patterns, and build tools for nervous system regulation, boundaries, and self-trust. I believe healing happens in relationship — and that therapy can be a place to practice connection in real time.

I offer in-person sessions in the East Bay, as well as online therapy for clients anywhere in California. You’re welcome to choose whichever option feels most supportive or convenient for you.

Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and talk about what’s bringing you to therapy. We’ll discuss what’s been feeling challenging and what you’re hoping for, and start exploring what helps you feel safe and supported. There’s no pressure to have it all figured out — our work will unfold at your pace.

That depends on your goals. Some people come for short-term support around a specific concern, while others stay longer to do deeper healing work. We’ll check in regularly to make sure therapy continues to feel useful and aligned with what you need.
